Being located so close to the centre of political power in the US really engages people in their views. Many of the people I have met here have strong opinions on the state of the union, the war in Iraq and gas prices. Awareness over what is happening in the senate is prevalent. I imagine having television stations like C-SPAN helps to spread information, but it is the word of mouth and verbal debates over lunch and around the water cooler or coffee machine that really get the word out.
