Superbowl XL
6Feb2006One of the interesting things about being in the North American region at this time of year is Superbowl – and this year’s event was Superbowl XL (which is 40 in Roman numerals for all you luddites who thought it applied to the players’ girths or spectators appetites).
The problem for TV stations is that Superbowl coverage eclipses pretty much anything else, so it’s a waste of time pitching anything you want to be watched at the same time as the match. Whilst channel-surfing yesterday I came across one peculiar mode of Superbowl programming on Animal Planet – they hosted Puppy Bowl – an event where puppies of assorted breeds and sizes frolic in a specially designed “stadium” .
Are you telling me you don’t want to watch puppies play for 3 hours? Some people obviously do, and there were features like real advertising boards along the side of the “pitch” from sponsors such as Subaru, and a “bowlcam”, which was a water bowl with a camera inside. Hamish was not impressed.

Hi Tom,
Good blog. Stumbled across it. Hope you are enjoying being back in good old BDA. We’ve been gone 6 months and are enjoying our bigger island in a bigger ocean. Love the photos.

Whatever traffic was left on the roads must have been taken away by this Puppy Bowl.

Im not really a big fan of Nascar racing, and neither is my husband. Our son who is 6 years old is a die hard Nascar fan. Don’t ask me were he go this from, but anyways I am sick of watching it on TV thats for sure. My only solution is this Carrera 1/43 NASCAR set of tracks that includes everything my little rugrat needs to play and watch his nascars somewhere else besides the TV. My question for anyone that has it already. Does it really keep your kid busy? Thats the only reason I got it, since he has a TV addiction, and if I replace it with the Carrera Slot car track I figured it would be a nice alternative for not only me but the rest of the poor souls in my household that have to put up with the hamster cage track racing event we call a sport lol!
