Simple Things

18Apr2006

It’s always nice when I find simple things which make me smile. Here are some this week:

Speaking in Tongues
Ever thought of learning a new language? How about the OLP? I speak a few languages, but this one would certainly be different. And it would probably help me converse better with my work colleagues…but would I have to dye my hair orange? (I should also mention that Tai Shan made me smile this week)

Let it Roll
Why did it take me so long to get a rolling laptop case? OK, it makes me look like a cliched business traveller, but my right shoulder is certainly smiling all the way to gate 37…

Hygiene not Encouraged
I was in a high school last week, and had to make use of the restrooms. I was not surprised to see the urinal positioned 8 inches off the ground – that makes sense I guess. But I did smile when I saw the soap dispenser hanging off the wall at a height of 72 inches. There should have been a sign on the wall – ‘Now Wash Your Hands…if You Can Reach’. Maybe the setup was designed specifically for my orange-haired friends with short legs and long arms?

  1. I love my rolling laptop case. I call it my portable office and use it on any day to/from work where I have a heavy load (not just when I travel).

Oh, wait, I quit my job and am now a Woman of Leisure. Put that whole first sentence in the past tense… that was what I used to do.

  2. haha… but you don’t want wallpaper with pandas? i have seen a documentary film of pandas in china, they live like kings.

  3. You mean they actually make rolling laptop cases? Why have I never heard of this before!? I’m going to the store…

  4. sportychick – thanks for rubbing that in! Must be nice…

ana va havana – a baby panda is not something which would normally move me at all, but it was just so cute. It won’t be so cute when it’s a 280-pound bamboo-eating machine, however.

author312 – it took me a while to switch, but now I’m a convert.

  5. I hear you! Rolling laptop cases — rolling hand luggage, in fact — are the way to go.

After trekking from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 at Heathrow last week, carrying a scoliosis-inducing shoulder bag and a laptop case, I crawled to the one duty free shop selling luggage and sprang for a Mandarina Duck rolling carry-on.

Now only hoping that my right shoulder springs back into shape. . .

  6. I consider having kids to do my chores and carry my groceries out to the car a simple thing that makes me smile. It only cost me 9 months apiece, the last one 4 of which were in bed, and a hell of a lot of pain and sleepless nights, so I use them all that I can. If they have to drag my non-rolling bags through an airport, then that is what they do.

    LOL

In all honesty, I love simple mindless mornings after all have departed the house for their days, sitting in my rocker on the porch watching the morning rain. That makes me smile.

  7. Today a young person dancing to the rythm of the music playing in a cloth-store among byers-to-be hasting to choose, try and have, made me smile!

  8. Great blog!! Nice pictures and you bring up some very interesting points :-)

  9. Really nice photo!
Yep, Heathrow is ten times the size of my village, and in between terminal 1 to 3, I just want to get rid of everything hanging from my hands, neck, or other parts of the body… And I never heard about rolling laptop, but everything that has wheels, is welcome to my life!

  10. I love your site, and your photos are amazing.

    Nice work.

  11. I have got a rolling Swiss Army Knife-case to sell you. As I consider you a blog friend I can give you a real bargain =:D

  12. Your blog makes me smile. :)

  13. Hey! Where ya been?!

  14. I’d never heard of rolling laptop cases before, but they sound like a great invention! I think i may need one, especially as I sometimes take my laptop to campus with me to work (I’m at uni you see) and to get there from where I live i have to walk over some very tiring (but very pretty) and very big hills…

  15. Thanks for the comments – just peeled off a hectic working week with no time for actual posting, but plenty of content in the pipeline…
