100% Natural

26Jul2006

I noticed yesterday when buying lunch at the supermarket hot counter that nearly every dish had chicken in it. There was baked chicken, ginger chicken, charcoal chicken, chicken pasta and even some chicken nuggets.

That got me thinking – was there a surplus of the aforementioned fowl? I then cast my mind back to a front page headline in the paper several years back proclaiming “Feral chicken population out of control” (Yes, I said front page headline). The problem is – I haven’t seen as many feral chickens around recently.

Maybe that’s why – maybe they are all being rounded up and used to offer the Bermuda lunch-buying public more choice on the chicken front. Maybe we prefer 100% natural Bermudian chicken over the imported water-plumped stuff from Perdue or Tysons.

On a chicken-related note, I noticed that KFC are heavily advertising their boneless chicken wings. If you are a chicken, it must be difficult to fly without bones in your wings. But then again, I guess it doesn’t matter if you have been fried and covered in honey BBQ sauce.

  1. As a somewhat irregular visitor to this particular residence of yours, ( and after having been completely 24/7 submerged in the war-debating blogosphere ), your images and words are a such a warmly welcome relief.

Very true. But with so much going on in the world it is difficult to keep up with all the breakthroughs in genetic engineering.

  2. Boneless chicken wings. I’m so moving over there!

  3. i just had some kfc for dinner – it was tasteless and drenched in oil. massively disappointed. sighhh. hope it’s better over there, bone or no bone.

  4. Does your KFC in Bermuda offer “Curry Crunch” chicken? I saw that on the menu at the KFC in Jamaica and I am hoping it will come to the KFC in Tennessee, but curry is probably far too exotic for the south! :)

  5. adam – the whole war thing is getting me down…

savante – I think they are available in the US too…

javatia – I never eat the stuff myself.

nonblond – unfortunately not. One local (non-KFC) specialty is “curried mussel pie” – and the pie crust is made with sweet pastry. It’s really good…
