Mostly Sunny…
3Jul2006Saturday was a big day – England playing Portugal in the World Cup, Canada Day celebrations and a big American Independence Day party. And we were sailing.
I checked out the weather forecast on the TV before heading to the dock and it read “Mostly sunny. 85 degrees. Wind 8-12 knots SSW.” There were 3 key words missing from that weather report, which should have appeared after the “Mostly sunny” tagline – Everywhere but Bermuda. Even the radar image looked like a big blue rain-like splodge.
In Germany, players and fans were wilting in the heat. At Wimbledon, players and fans were wilting in the heat. In Bermuda, we were suffering in the grey, rainy and overcast conditions.
Which raises the question – how can you get it so wrong? The disclaimer on the Bermuda Weather website is very non-committal. I think bad forecasts like that should be treated in the same way as a bad day refereeing – the culprits should be disciplined, maybe by making them sit out in the sun with no suntan lotion so they understand what sun really is…

thi punishment works only if you make them sit under a “mostly sunny” spot!
Our motto in New England, at least in New Hampshire, is “If you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes, it will change”. I don’t bother watching the weather channel anymore, unless it’s for entertainment.
Funny, I ran into the same problem today. The weather report said the clouds would give way to sun… Well, it’s nearly 7pm and still cloudy. I have the top and doors off my Jeep and refuse to put them on. It rained a little and I don’t care. I just hope tomorrow is sunny. *sigh*
