Fences and Lines

19Dec2006

I walked past a neighbour’s house the other day. There were little flags all around the garden with the caption “Invisible Fence” on them. Now – maybe I am being a little bit stupid here, but aren’t invisible fences supposed to be, uh, invisible? I am sure that someone will say that this is just one of the steps to build your invisible fence, but it just seems silly to me.

The other thing which always puzzles me – when I go to a supermarket and want to get in and out quickly, I make sure I purchase less than 10 items and go to the “express” line, only to be greeted by the slowest cashier ever to count quarters. The three people in front of me take longer to serve than the fifteen with full trollies in the next line. Is there some unwritten supermarket management rule which puts the least gifted in control of the express till? Or do they just target me?

  1. Probably they just target you!

Nice new photo on top of your blog. It matches the lighthouse lens below perfectly! But what is it?

Thanks for the comment. The new header is part of one of my photos:

It is Christmas lights around a palm tree. I plan on changing the header image every month.

I plan on commenting soon on “The Day it All Changed”…

  3. Tut tut Tam – that should be “fewer than 10 items”.

    You know who!

  4. Fewer vs. Less. I know whow you are. I was just quoting what they have on the sign. I know it should be fewer – in fact, it annoys me when people have more than 10 or fewer items in the “express” queue.
