I am a target market .. of one
19Sep2007I have written before about how I am a sucker for good advertising. The better the pitch, the more I am hooked, especially for things I don’t really need.
Well, the other night I was hooked by an infomercial from Chevy, thirty minutes of solid gold advertising about one truck – the Chevy Silverado.
The infomercial is targeted at guys like a heat-seeking missile – it is all about fixing stuff, towing stuff and technical stuff. I don’t care that I don’t need to tow 16,500 lbs – I still want the ability to do it. I don’t care that the truck won’t fit on 75% of Bermuda’s roads, I still want to drive it down Front Street towing a Mumm 36. And although I don’t really know Howie Long, not being an American Football fan, he seems to be perfect for the job of pitching an all-American truck to all-American guys – so much so that I am taken in, and I am not even close to being all-American.
Or maybe I am just overly susceptible to sales influence at 3am on a weekday morning when I can’t sleep? I hope that is not really the case, otherwise I know I will be signing up for a Life Alert pendant in the very near future.
