Food Inventions
27Jan2008I am always amazed at what people invent. So imagine my surprise wandering around the DIY store yesterday when I saw what looked like clear sunglasses.
Upon close inspection they turned out to be Onion Goggles. Yes, you read that right. Clear sunglasses with a foam seal to stop your eyes filling up with tears when you chop onions. They actually looked kind of funky, with lime green inserts, but I wasn’t about to spend $30 on something I don’t need (although if I had seen them on an infomercial I might have!).
But there are some food inventions I use and have never looked back – one of them being Uncle Bens Microwave Rice. Two minutes and I have perfectly cooked brown rice. Why would anyone waste 40 minutes cooking real stuff anymore?

How apt that they’d have ONION GOGGLES for this island’s residents.
Watch the movie “Diva”. A girl is chopping onions and wearing a scuba mask. In fact, I caught my sister-in-law doing this.
And after dealing with some pungent onions the other day, can see the point in it, but am too cheap to pay for it.
BTW, regular old glasses don’t work.
I’ve done it before with my scuba mask. Works wonders. Just don’t let anyone see you do it.
